Story behind the song
Creative block? Try Haiku! I don't really know much more than the form but it's great for freeing the mind. A real Haiku is a single-verse form but I strung a few together to make this lyric. The music grew out of my love for the old Bossa Nova songs of Jobim et al.
Lyrics
Imogen Imogen her name. I imagine her in bed with a paperback. Meanwhile I make tea. Naked, humming happily As evening draws in. Outside people walk. Inside she calls out my name and shakes her hair down. Wordlessly she says: 'Drop into my dreams tonight Just come as you are'. Clearer than daydreams I imagine Imogen In bed with her books, Her charming good-looks Brighter possibilities Of resolution. Imogen her name. Sweet figment of a dreamer: just a fantasy. Strange we sometimes are, perfect strangers to ourselves Our minds not our own. Clearer than daydreams I imagine Imogen In bed with her books. Her charming good-looks Brighter possibilities Of resolution.
