Story behind the song
I wrote this song after watching the news one night. I wrote it as a tribute to our Armed Forces, and their families, who give so much. Also, as a tribute to our Veterans who have given so much.
Lyrics
We lost a guy just yesterday
I've seen him lots, didn't know his name
But that's one thing about a combat zone
One minute you're there, and the next you're gone
Now, I'll gladly pay the highest price
All in the name of the Stars and Stripes
Tell the kids I'll be home soon
We'll plan that second honeymoon
For, every day I'm away from you
My love grows stronger
Girl, it's true
You're on my mind when The Union fights
But, I'd rather be home with you tonight
The bombs light up the evening skies
We're here to fight another man's fight
I'll give it all for the Stars and Stripes
But I miss you most
On Baghdad Nights
Through the smoke, I see a star
Can you see it where you are?
I wanna kiss and hold you tight
But I miss you most
On Baghdad Nights
(Spoken)
The jets scream by and the children cry
They know somethin's happening
But they don't know why
I found this letter that my buddy wrote home
By the time I got it, he was already gone
But, before I send it on, I want to share with you
To let you know just what Our Troops go through
And I hope you remember all those who died
And Welcome Home the rest
With true American Pride
(Shouted)
Stand Up, Be Proud!!!
The bombs light up the evening skies
We're here to fight another man's fight
I'll give it all for the Stars and Stripes
But I miss you most
On Baghdad Nights
I miss you most
On Baghdad Nights
