Story behind the song
Denial of Heart - devoid of Love - fuel for the tortured artist and power for the man of business. Surrounded by silence he sits at his study desk. Immune to the ticking clock that marks the late hour. He prepares a letter of apology and regret. The year is 1889 and the sudden death of his closest friend Trevor - has brought about an unexpected house guest. A young woman - Trevor’s daughter - Agatha. Unfortunate, she has been left penniless by her father’s death due to expense of her education. She had been away to finishing school in Paris. Her fresh beauty and sweet disposition has rekindled a flame inside his dark soul. He finds himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Her smile and deep eyes a haunting distraction - even now. Drowning in the ebb and tide of his own unpredictable emotions. His dark heart preys for her and wishes to devour her innocents like a beast in the night. “She is a mere child... ” he reminds himself each time she comes near him smelling of wild flowers and dressed in her new charm. How long before she would see the old man beside her and not the Lover? Nay - she is of Trevor’s own flesh and blood... she could easily be his own child given her age! Yet, in his dreams he has lived out the scenario a dozen times and failed to realize any good to come of it. His voracious appetite had cost him his freedom before - and now he must detour his consuming lust and retreat to city where he can bury himself in his work. She will be left in good hands entrusted to his housekeeper Mary and his driver Carl. He will leave instructions to see that she is given an allowance until she finds a valid - respectable Love. He must leave her to save her from his twist of desire. It is for the best. Her honor and his reputation must be rescued from collapse. Deep under the cover of night he wades ashore a better man - with a bitter Heart and a shining deed untarnished
