Sharkweek is New Zealand-based artist and producer Peter Lewis. With an ongoing interest in outer space and pop culture, and drawing inspiration from the likes of The Orb, Orbital and Future Sound Of London, he filters these influences through his unique sensibilities to produce something new, yet also familiar. Debut album "The Hammerhead Nebula" collects the best new Sharkweek tracks as well as revamped and reworked versions of old favourites. A rich blend of lush electronica, sometimes-busy beats, and manipulated found sounds are complemented by vocal samples from a wide variety of sources including a NASA scientist (who gave his blessing to the project), obscure infomercials and a fine pair of talented vocalists. You'll hear elements of pop, ambient, dub, and experimental styles in Sharkweek songs, but there's always something recognisably "Sharkweek" about them! It's music that's simple yet dense, spacey without being formless, and humourous without being silly. Reference points and influences include - as well as the above - Boards Of Canada, Lemon Jelly, Astralasia and Banco de Gaia.

Story behind the song
Dugongs are beautiful gentle sea creatures, also known as sea cows. It's said that sailors may have mistaken them for women, giving rise to the myth of mermaids. I can't see the resemblance personally, but then I've never spent six months at sea, starved of female company!
