Remember Hogans Heroes? Hogan would always tell Klink that it was against the Geneva Convention. I never knew until much later in life, what exactly the Geneva Convention was, except that it meant that Stalag 13 couldn’t put a Christmas Tree up.
Whenever someone says that the Bush Administration is dismantling the Constitution of the United States is just about the most reckless thing any REAL American could say… to think he has the time, is mind boggling. These people obviously don’t realize how much time and energy it takes to dismantle the Geneva Convention. The Constitution is just the United States, the Geneva Conventions, is like, the whole world.
But, Friday, President Gas signed into law, and out of the Geneva Conventions, a prisoner’s basic right to dispute his detention in court, kangaroo or otherwise.
Earlier in the week, the yeomen’s work had been cemented with a torture bill quaintly called the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which was supposed to be a compromise to the bill’s original language. The compromises amount to (3) major things: First, the original bill enabled the detainee to “examine & respond to evidence against him” ..now, gone.
Second, any evidence obtained outside the U.S. illegally or not cannot be opposed.
And third, the US can now detain ANYONE who supports hostility towards the United States. Think it can’t happen to you??
Ask the New Yorker who sold satellite TV out of his Brooklyn storefront. He was arrested under this provision because he sold a satellite dish with the Hezbollah network on it. That means ANYBODY, not just a muslim, anybody who sells a Satellite TV with the Hezbollah network on it, can be prosecuted, and with no ability to contest it.
I mean this is crazy.
EVERY piece of scrap of eveidence has shown us, torture not only does not work, but also brings about false statements…
But you know what’s crazier? The man who once said the US does not torture, is the man who now will define what torture is, and worse, what it is not…
