Lyrics
We pulled into the circle of the elementary school He was strapped into that backpack and was sporting brand new shoes I felt both his excitement and his fear of the unknown And as I drove away I realized my little boy…was on his own Well it seems like yesterday when he would reach to hold my hand When he thought I walked on water and could beat up Superman And although there’s a sweetness to this bitter cup of letting go… The memories of a baby boy made me smile…all the way home/ The memories of a little boy made me wonder…all the way home/ The memories of a little boy made me cry…all the way home I got home from the office as I do most every day Then I walked down to the cul-de-sac to see if I could play Though I played so many times before, I found I wasn’t in demand He’d discovered friends as I was warned, he was becoming…his own man We pulled up to the college on that warm late-August day We moved his things, and said goodbye, and then we drove away As we sat there in the silence, we tried to fight the tears And we wondered in amazement at the passing…of those years
