I'm easily inspired either by personal experiences, things said in conversation, being given a challenge, or being moved or amused by something. Many genres.

Story behind the song
A simple rock n roll song about being happy even when there's no spare cash....a song of the time I guess. With the drastic Government spending cuts, we're all having to re-assess what's really important, tighten our belts, stay positive and get on with it. As I've found personally in the past, financial hardship can sometimes be a real blessing in disguise and this song's about that.
Lyrics
The chimneys loose and the tiles are slippin, The lock on the back door not quite fittin The vacuum blows and the big brush shows, Were back to basics now. The grills packed up and the toasters blown, The fence is down and the budgies flown, The gas fire broke but we have some coke So well get by somehow. Chorus Back to basics, we have no cash, Back to basics, happy at last, Aint it grand how the good Lord must have planned it Cause were happier than ever now Words/Music © Carol Douglas
