Story behind the song
Wyman says: On 'inspiration", more often than not , I just "write what I get" and don't really know where it comes from. As they say," I don't write 'em, I just write 'em down". In the case of this song, it's probably due to a somewhat "esoteric", if that's the right word, mind set. It's one of probably a dozen "Dream songs" I've written.
Sandy says: When Wyman sent me his lyrics, I knew I had to write the music for it. I also used this project to challenge myself to arrange a full orchestra score.
Added note: Wyman and I held on to "Sweet Wings of Dreamland" for a bit, because we were not quite satisfied with the music or lyrics. So, we rewrote it. During the rewrite, with warmth and welcome, I came in contact with my Father's side of the family. We were separated many years ago. I told Wyman, "I'm living our song." So, "Sweets" as Wyman and I affectionally call our project, became very personal.
So I dedictate "Sweet Wings of Dreamland" to Katherine, Robert, Gehret, John & James.

SWEET WINGS OF DREAMLAND
v1
Time has a way of taking it's toll.
Days change like the tides of the sea.
What is distant today, tomorrow is close
Tonight you float through my dreams.
[chorus]
SWEET WINGS OF DREAMLAND carry me back,
Back through a thousand setting suns.
Three thousand miles and ten thousand tears,
When my loved one and I were as one.
v2
The Lord both gives and He takes away.
Though time it has always been so.
Earth is nothing but dirt, while man's more than clay.
I'll find you some day, I know.
[bridge]
Love's flame burned bright as the fire burned low.
It was a hot summer, now comes the snow.
[chorus]
SWEET WINGS OF DREAMLAND carry me back,
Back through a thousand setting suns.
Three thousand miles and ten thousand tears,
When my loved one and I were as one.
Very nice harmonies. Well made song throughout! Dreamy.
