From the original musical "White Blood.
I'm a composer-songwriter dabbling in various genres including pop, rock, blues, country and jazz. I am also a playwright and have written several musicals to date. Most of the songs feature myself on lead vocals. They are primarily to showcase the melody and the lyrics, rather than the singing (OK, weak apology for bad singing here!) or even the musical arrangements. Female vocals are provided by my good friend, Emma.

Story behind the song
This song is from a musical, hence the theatrical sounding opening lines. It is meant for the female lead, but in the absence of Emma, I've had to demo it myself. (Try and imagine a soprano, doing it 2 tones higher). :P
Lyrics
DARE TO DREAM Is this the life I was meant for? A humble little wife, nothing more Who does her work without a sound Never questioning Just obeying Always around Hakim cries in the cradle. MAHSURI soothes him and rocks it. The crying subsides. I want to go out in the world Like.. like DERAMANG To see new things. But how can I? I’ve obligations A nagging conscience What would you do without me? I used to dream of running through Endless fields of green The open sky inviting me To find out what life means I used to dream I’d roam the earth Be guided by the stars I hoped one day I’d learn life’s worth Now look at me, I’m living behind bars Why dream when you’re woken up in the end To find your dream exists just in your mind? What point is there to wish and yearn, even pretend? No one hears No one cares It’s like they’re blind To me, my dreams are all I hold They’re there to help me cope One day, who knows, I’ll break the mould To realise my dreams, to dare to hope And no one here understands me No one here feels the same They’re just contented, they accept the score They take what they have been given But not me, I want more Why dream when you’re woken up in the end To find your dream’s the only one of its kind? Why try explaining when they will not understand? You’re just strange Must be mad Out of your mind... I used to dream of happiness Wishful, perhaps naive One day, who knows, it might come true Maybe I’m a fool, but that’s what I believe If you dare to dream, your dream may dare to live
