Contemporary Christian Music from 1976.
Way back in the Mid 1970's, before 'Contemporary Christian' was even a genre, a group of folk in Merseyside, UK, were exploring how playing the music they liked fitted in with the things they believed. Amongst them were a band called Celebration, who never made an album, played a few concerts (Mostly in 1977.. but the very first in 1976.. hence the name "Celebration - 1976 - revisited") and then went their different ways. Band Members (at various times) included Tim Rawe, Paul and Dave Maylor, Alison Battey, Yvonne Bridge, Paul Winn, Kevin Mercer, Eli, Chris Knowles, Graham Marshall, Rob Fisher and myself Adrian. Don't expect much in the way of recording quality here... it's rough and ready, recorded on the fly and is was it is... great memories of times gone by. As said at the start... this stuff dates back to the mid-1970's. I was a new Christian, 19 years old, not sure where life was heading or even how who I was fitted in with being part of a church community. I remember there were those who told me that Christian Rock music would never catch on and I should pursue other musical directions. These days Contemporary Christian music outsells many other genres. Sure hope you enjoy these blasts from the past!

Story behind the song
I think a lot of us learned to write songs by mastering other folks tunes and rearranging them a little... with different words or melody. This one sounds remarkably like "Lakky Lady" ... a B Side of a single by Status Quo. Plagiarism is a thinly veiled form of flattery! In the manner of hymn writers of previous generations, I 'borrowed' (or maybe 'adapted?') their tune and added different words for a religious purpose. This particular performance was in the mid 70's, either at a Baptist Church in New Brighton, or an Anglican Church in Moreton, Wirral, UK. I forget which. But they seemed to like it!
Lyrics
Smile God Loves You Words: Adrian J Pratt 1974 (Tune 'borrowed' from "Lakky Lady" written by Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt) If ever you're in trouble Or feeling rather down If your face is snarling And upon your brow's a frown, Smile God loves you Don't let yourself feel so down. Confess to Him your trouble, Let Jesus in your life Let the Spirit take your body Do what the bible says is right Oh... Smile God loves you Don't let yourself feel so down. Have you heard the message? Jesus is alive today! Has no one told you? He's the only way, Smile God loves you. Confess to Him your trouble, Let Jesus in your life Let the Spirit take your body Do what the bible says is right Smile God loves you Oh, don't let yourself feel so down. If you feel that something is lacking And that something isn't ther Then let Jesus in your life And something will be there! Oh... Smile God loves you Don't let yourself feel so down. Have you heard the message? Jesus is alive today! Has no one told you? He's the only way, Smile God loves you. Smile God loves you.
