Story behind the song
I was teaching a class about the French Revolution at the time, and it seemed to fit with the aggressive nature of the music. In the second solo section, the guitar harmony part is doing variations on the French national anthem. The solos and the high pitched screaming in the chorus were performed by Eli Cutting.
Lyrics
Fishwomen storming the palace of Versailles They search for Marie Antoinette in her bed Ripping and tearing and shredding her matresses In a short time they would chop off her head Louis the XVI was causing a stir because he was unable to father a son Unqualified to be ruling a country So taking his head was what had to be done For Liberty Equality Off with their heads We'll all be equal and we'll all be free when we're dead Slaughter the prisoners and all the dissidents That were identified here by Marat Decapitation, Enlightenment principles Tell us that nothing's more humane than that National Razor cuts close as it cleanses The country of Royal and clerical scum Feed her the heads of our enemies daily And savor the scent of the blood that does run For Liberty Equality Off with their heads We'll all be equal and we'll all be free when we're dead While Marat soaked in a tub all day writing A girl came by with a new blacklist of spies Turned out the girl had come as an assassin She kills Marat, is arrested, and died Robespierre cared not for capital punishment But was convinced not to follow his gut Wouldn't you know by the end of the Terror His neck was the last that the guillotine cut
