Story behind the song
OK, so it wasn't a veranda...it was a balcony. And sorry Brent for missing the perfect opportunity to rhyme "veranda" with "Carmen Miranda". The chance may never come again...
Lyrics
Another peaceful Utah sunset. The hazy mountains close their eyes. The moon floats in the shining desert clouds. The stars the actors, the stage the sky. Beside me, an empty chair, I speak aloud, it's like you were there. Do you remember that old veranda? We'd sit and talk 'til that old sun slept. Springtime feelings in a Summer setting (of the Sun). What I gave then seemed more than what I kept. When will this chair stop being so empty? Is all I ask. I miss the warm feelings of security. I miss some warm fingers intertwined with mine. I miss loving someone more than myself. I miss silently passing time. Don't want this empty chair, not you! Just someone to love. Then the clouds come and the stars fade and the rain pours and the snows stays and my heart burns with an empty heat and my heart yearns for the burning beat and all I ask . . . is for someone to love.
