Story behind the song
This song depicts the story in the Bible when Jesus walks on the water. In their moment of fear and confusion, Jesus says to his disciples “It is I, be not afraid.”
Lyrics
Verse 1: Did Jesus walk on water because He couldn't swim? Or was He tryin' to show us somethin' about Him? When the disciples saw Him, their hearts were filled with fear; but Jesus said, “Be of good cheer. It is I, be not afraid.” Chorus: Be not afraid. Be not afraid. Verse 2: Now Peter went to join Him, just to try it for himself; but soon he saw the wind and waves around him. Peter started sinking, because he was afraid. He looked on circumstances instead of on the Lord. Verse 3: Quickly Jesus caught him with a mighty hand; but He said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Climbing back into the boat, the wind grew quickly still. Each one of us then began to shout: “Truly You are the Son of God!”
