Story behind the song
The title and theme for this song came from the movie Das Boot. I can't remember the exact wording but one of the submariners states that by the Lord's Grace they were stuck on a Shovel Full of Sand. They were stuck on a sand bar that prevented them from sinking further and pressure blowing up the sub. I watched the movie with Cade on a Friday night and as soon as the line was uttered I knew that I had a title and a theme, redemption and salvation. The song is actually is a response to Christian Fundamentalist. To even question the traditional dogma about redemption, salvation or Christ is to incur their cry of heretic or blasphemy. The song is about the freedom to think, "There's no need to worry, there's no need to pine or feel sorry bout what's on your mind". This song was a result of Super Songwriter Saturday (even though the title and theme came the Friday night before), the songwriting circle I used to have at Cade's house.
Lyrics
By the lord above's grace I found myself on a shovel full of sand depth charges all around me and I will die who I am CHORUS » So there's no need to worry There's no need to pine woe woe There's no time to be sorry For what is on your mind « Verse II » You say I'm some sort of schemer And you don't trust my plans You say I'm some sort of dreamer And you don't understand CHORUS » « Verse III » Well there will come a day Of judgment so it seems The lord will take your slate He will wipe it clean CHORUS »
