Something's got to give (Hooker Green)
A co-write with Erik Kuhn, (Hooker Green) a fine German Blues artist. It was my first attempt at writing lyrics in the blues style, so I feel honoured. It's about deciding to change things and maybe take a few risks.
I'm easily inspired either by personal experiences, things said in conversation, being given a challenge, or being moved or amused by something. Many genres.
Story behind the song
The first of two co-writes with Erik Kuhn, (aka Hooker Green) of Germany.
It's about deciding to change direction and take some risks for the first time.
I'd already written the lyrics, and because I love Erik's voice and guitar work, and the lyrics are in the Blues style, he was my natural choice to send them to.
It was my first attempt at writing in this genre, so I felt honoured that he agreed to give it a shot, and love what he did. I think the German accent really adds charm to the song. Also pleased that he didn't feel the need to change a word, even though he was free to do so.
Erik said, "Please dont expect too much.. its a ditty in the simple way I play the blues"

Lyrics
SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE
Going the wrong way down a one way,
Headlights shining in my eyes,
Going the wrong way down a one way,
Headlights shining in my eyes
Can't see where I'm going
However much I try.
I'll put the wheels in motion,
Try to play the winning game for a change,
I'll put the wheels in motion,
Try to play the winning game for a change
Pick up all the pieces,
So they can all be re-arranged.
CHORUS
Throwing caution to the wind,
It's a sin, I've never been there before,
Throwing caution to the wind,
It's a sin, I've never been there before,
But something's got to give,
I can't live like this no more,
Yea, something's got to give,
I can't live like this no more.
