Shallow-Funk comprises of three members, Al-Nashir Bandali (Rhumba), Joe Cook (DJ Joe) and Luke Boulton-Major (EDGE). They reside in Bristol, UK, which is commended for its high levels of culture,history and diversity. Separately, their musical tastes are very different but if put together, nothing but high quality music is produced. Joe is a local House DJ and likes the whole funky, tribal scene. Luke on the other hand is a Hip-Hop DJ and likes underground as well as commercial Hip-Hop. Finally, Al is a Hip-Hop DJ but prefers to specialize in the Old School style. The common ground between them all is that they love to hear anything with a groove. This is mainly the driving baselines and resonant highs you can associate to Funk, Disco and Electro. As the trio, collectively listen to many different styles of music, it is plain to see that there will be many ideas and a lot more experimentation put into these beats. This can be anything from the way the beat is produced to what sounds we put where and where we chop the samples from. What is important is that these guys love to get down, and this is definitely reflected in the music they produce, so look out, coz Shallow-Funk is in full affect. Peace!
