Great Granny
Dear old great granny didn’t have much to say
She accepted the routine life of each day
She was witty strong simple and plain
Never a harsh word nor did she complain
She catered to the whims of her demanding spouse
Kept busy maintaining a spotless house
She had no interest in idle chat
Worked with her fingers whenever she sat
Never took time to rest or doze
Patched and mended the children’s clothes
Assisted her children with their homework
Patiently listened and never did shirk
Dear old great granny didn’t have much to say
She accepted the routine life of each day
She was witty strong simple and plain
Never a harsh word nor did she complain
A washing machine she couldn’t afford
She scrubbed the clothes on a washing board
Hung out the laundry in the air to dry
A sunny day she welcomed with a sigh
No phone to gossip no radio or TV to play
Each day of the week was just another day
Several children who required much care
Scrubbed them in a washtub, combed their hair
Dear old great granny didn’t have much to say
She accepted the routine life of each day
She was witty strong simple and plain
Never a harsh word nor did she complain
Carried in the wood, shoveled the snow
Fired up the old woodstove to a rosy glow
Fed the chickens and milked the cow
Churned the butter and hitched the plow
Great granny never ran out of chores to do
Pressing a button or gadget to do her work she never knew
Hats off to her, a gem in the rough
Never gave up when times got tough
Dear old great granny didn’t have much to say
She accepted the routine life of each day
She was witty strong simple and plain
Never a harsh word nor did she complain
Liberated lady remember great granny
She never took time to rest her fanny
She was one of the rare greats
Now in heaven polishing the pearly gates
