Who's that taking me home?
A song about a woman who loses her memory in a car accident and forgets everything since she was nineteen.
These are Mike Morgan's entries for the 2003 fifty song challenge, featuring some lyrics by David F. Cox
Story behind the song
Written about a news article about a woman in a car accident who lost several years of memory and awoke to find her husband was the most repulsive individual she'd ever met. A true story, apparently!
Lyrics
Who's that taking me home?
around 10 miles south of Birmingham there lived a Queen
who got hit by a car and lost her memory, she can't remember a thing
she came round in hospital to find her life in disarray
she thought she was still nineteen, and here's what she had to say
Home? Home?
who's that taking me home?
I don't recognise that man
and nobody understands
Now she didn't mean to be rude but hadn't the time
to hear him explain how she changed and then one day became his wife
she only saw grey hair and a tatty old suit
there was no point in trying, he wasn't her type and she yearned to get back her youth
Home? Home?
No I don't want to go home
I just can't stand that man
and nobody understands
so comatose is fashion consciousness
defective brains belong in nightclubs, I guess
and this holds particularly true
should you just happen to be forty two
It's hard to imagine the restlessness she must have felt
she never got her memory back and said it was just as well
and though he keeps on trying, he wonders when she's going to go
she complains to the papers and cries to herself, but she never leaves him
no, she just cries
Home? Home?
who's that taking me home?
I just don't like that man
and nobody understands (repeat)
