Story behind the song

I was in a failing 5-year relationship and at the teetering point of deciding whether or not to leave. This song helped me through that decision because I realized the pain was greater and more frequent than the good feelings. I still refer to this song in conversations with people who are in relationships that are harmful to them.

Any more we are not on the same page. You or I always throwing a child's rage. We have needs that are not being met, and we don't even know what they are yet. Are we still happy when we're together? Or are we here because it's familiar? Stop and take a look at the big picture. What's the percentage of pain?
