Story behind the song
This was an attempt to write an imagery based song about the universal theme of going home. It appears on the surface to be a rather simple concept but listen closely to the lyrics to see what it's really about. When you find out you'll be surprised.
Lyrics
The clouds are misty on the mountain The air is crisp, clean and cold The sun is peeking through the treetops The day is only hours old Little did I know then that a day would come to pass When I'd need those memories to keep me sane Those golden times are still living in my mind That's what I call Going Home Lucy Anne stands at the window Watching Daddy feed the dogs After breakfast we'll go fishing he and I, And Little Sis will tag along All these things that I remember from my youth Help me now to pass the time away The nurses wonder what it is that makes me smile, I just tell them I'm Going Home Momma's cooking in the kitchen The cabin warms with the smell Aunts and uncles at the door now Thanksgiving day and all is well I remember wishing that those days would never end But it's now that my days are all the same The only time I'm happy is the only time I move And the only time is when I'm Going Home
