A prayer to the biggest statue of Mary that I've ever seen (facing north) on the top of mountain, in a Christian village area while the war was being waged below in South Lebanon.

This is Lorelei Loveridge's 'demo' page. It is dedicated to friend and co-writer Elizabeth Ward who passed away on Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 in the morning, her loved ones with her, her daughter holding her hand, and strangers from across the globe holding them all in a circular embrace of love and compassion. Every effort will be made, as promised to Liz before she passed on, to record her music and share it with the world. Peace be upon her and upon us all. Story behind the song
Three days after the Israel-Lebanon war began, my friend Laura and I were bootin' it overland to Damascus in a cab, our second attempt to get out before all the bridges were bombed (which they now are). Through the Christian hilltowns, far from the action in Tyre, we passed the biggest statue of Mary, facing north, away from the fighting in the south. It came to me as a symbol later, once back in Saudi Arabia, listening to the different viewpoints of people...on why this war 'needs' to happen. In the Christian mountain villages of Lebanon, it was like nothing was going on. Summer holidays. People kicking around and having lunch at outdoor cafes. Meanwhile, in the U.S. and elsewhere, around tables, politicians were stalling for...whatever. The memory of being on the run was strong on my mind. The images of those suffering in Lebanon's south, attrocious. This is a prayer to Mother Mary as much as it is a scolding of her and those who believe in her during times like these.

MARY © 2006, Lorelei Loveridge, SOCAN Mary, while you're standing there helpless While your back is turned this way Mary, while you're praying to Jesus Children are dying every day Mary, while the taxis are running Rickshaw up the roads As fast as they can from the F-15's You're silent in complicity Mary, the valley here is peaceful People farm the land Christians at the table talk While no one takes command Mary, while the buildings are falling In your own backyard While the hospitals are filling You look the other way -- where is your heart Mary, I know I'm speaking easy I know not what you feel I see you on the hilltop, Mary Are you really real They say you are compassion They say you are a mother They say you are a healer Mary, are you? Tell me, are you? Mary, while you're standing there helpless While you're back is turned this way Mary, while you're praying to Jesus Children are dying every day Mary, while the taxis are running Ricksaw up the roads As fast as they can from the F-15's You're silent in complicity
