Story behind the song
Written for my 8 year old daughter on a bet I could write a country song with three chords.
Lyrics
I was lying there sleeping,
hadn't opened an eye.
When Daddy stomped in
and I heard him cry.
"It's six O'clock, get out of bed,
man I've never seen such a sleepy head."
I'd barely gotten up
and put my feet on the floor,
when I heard my Daddy comming 'round my door once more,
He pulled me to the bathroom, and gave me a jerk.
"Hurry up" he said, "I'll be late for work."
Chorus
I don't know what I done,
I don't know what I did.
That made my poor Daddy flip his lid.
Things were going great,
but now they're shabby.
Watch out! My Daddy's crabby.
Things weren't going right
for Dad the other day.
Mamma had worked,
and was sleeping it away.
He tried to make the dinner,
but started too late.
"Wonderful" he said,
"We'll be eating by eight."
I grew tired of my clothes,
and changed them again.
Daddy saw I'd switched.
Do you know what happened then?
He shouted, he screamed,
he bellowed once more.
"Emily you'd better get these
clothes off the floor.
Chorus
Doodle head got caught with
his nose in the trash.
Daddy saw him there
and gave him a bash.
Mamma got upset, and I began to cry.
"Why'd you beat the dog Daddy?
Why, why, why?"
I know my Daddy loves me
and my Mamma too.
It's only when he's cranky
that I'm feeling blue.
Maybe if I hug him,
he'll give it a rest.
'Cause I know my Daddy
likes my hugs the best.
Chorus and end.
