A classic rock song about the futility of love, with a twin guitar solo at the end. I was told by a very good guitar player that I sound like Brian May at the end of the song, which made me smile.

Hi, I've been writing songs since I was twelve years old, and recording them since 1985. Roger Cook (of the Cook-Greenaway-Cook songwriting partnership and Blue Mink, etc) once wrote that I have the ability to write a hit single and that he was waiting for one from me. He also said I need to 'lighten up a bit', unquote. F*ck that!

Story behind the song
I can't seem to get the hang of relationships! But then again, every lady I've been out with over the last 30 years is still a good friend to this day, so it's not all bad news.
Lyrics
It's only like this all the time A darkness so sublime And it's such a hill to climb You can say the choice was mine But keep the valentine The feelings that I had Dried up as they went bad Although I still feel sad My heart is iron clad Keep the valentine Well there's nothing I want And nothing I need Because I'm so strong And a strong man don't bleed My heart is beating inside it's grave But I'll never be an emotional slave Honey you came and smiled As if that makes a change It's only like this all the time Feelings I can't define Send shivers down my spine But now I'm doing fine So keep the valentine I've been living in my head Ever since my heart went dead Now there's no more tears to shed I'll just get wrecked instead So keep the valentine Well there's nothing I want And nothing I need Because I'm so strong And a strong man don't bleed My heart is beating inside its grave But I'll never be an emotional slave Honey you came and smiled As if that makes some kind of change How do you sleep at the end of the day? (I sleep fine) I guess you must be lonely from what I hear you say? (No no no no) Do you believe that love is give and take? (Oh yeah yeah) Why don't you take the lead and give yourself a break? It's only like this all the time... So keep the Valentine

Nice touch on the end vocals, and true about the guitar rifs at the end! Very nice!
