Hi, I've been writing songs since I was twelve years old, and recording them since 1985. Roger Cook (of the Cook-Greenaway-Cook songwriting partnership and Blue Mink, etc) once wrote that I have the ability to write a hit single and that he was waiting for one from me. He also said I need to 'lighten up a bit', unquote. F*ck that!

Story behind the song
I met my very first net-friend on AOL, and we've become very good friends indeed. She was only sixteen at the time, and some of my older friends questioned my motives, seeing as I was fourty-four. I wrote this song for her, and the lyric in the middle eight is the accusations and insinuations I was getting from various friends and family, followed my response to them. Angie, I love you dearly and I'm so proud of you! Keep up the good work at college, ok? Say hi to Matty for me and I hope he appreciates what he's got! xxx
Lyrics
In a word no big deal It don't matter what it is you find you don't feel I'll be there as your friend Broken hearts, broken dreams Your whole world tries to come apart at the seams I'll stand by to the end I'm old enough and I'm wise enough To know the games we play My heart is old and my skin is tough So why don't you, why don't you Why don't you just fire away In your dreams you can feel When the morning comes you get to see it aint real But I'm there as your friend Broken words, vicious lies Call me up, I'll sing you lullabies Go to sleep Have some deep pleasant dreams When life is tough it stretches you I know just what I say When you aint too sure what you ought to do Well why don't you, why don't you Why don't you just fire away Lonely hearts, ancient souls Only sixteen, sometimes you just seem so old Solid gold I can see I've been used, been abused But I can tell you I've never been so bemused Or amused, you got to me Ancient Angel comes to me I see her night and day If you could see what she means to me But why don't you why don't you Why don't you just fire away You got a nerve You dirty old perv We know what's on your mind She's only sixteen And you know what we mean 'Cos we aint stupid or blind I thought I was old But a meeting of souls Has changed my point of view I don't need to listen to you
