Story behind the song
Still the miles of gutted homes and FEMA trailers stand as reminders of the losses so many friends, family, neighbors and fellow citizens suffered and continue to suffer, and always the sense of continuing vulnerability looms about this sunken city and its people. Now everything depends on staying dry. July 15, 2006
Lyrics
Throw out the furniture appliances TVs Flood water gets in everything Throw out the memories the comforts of the past Pile them up on the curb more debris Keep me dry keep me dry Make me high help me rise above the tide Keep me dry keep me dry Make me wise help me climb The mountain in my mind Where the tide never rises so high Keep me dry Rip out the floors and walls the wires and the pipes Salt water eats through anything Rip out the heart and soul the spirit and the pride Gut the house air it out let it breathe Keep me dry keep me dry Make me high help me rise above the tide Keep me dry keep me dry Make me wise help me climb The mountain in my mind Where the tide never rises so high Keep me dry Keep me dry When the eye of the storm Comes ashore let it roar Let the ocean rage against the sky Well be home with a prayer No more running anywhere The city on the hill will survive Safe and dry Keep me dry keep me dry Make me high help me rise above the tide Keep me dry keep me dry Make me wise help me climb The mountain in my mind Where the tide never rises so high Keep me dry Keep me dry Keep me dry Words and Music (c) 2006 by Jack E.
