Story behind the song
2. Booker T. Washington told black to give up political power, insistence on civil rights, and higher education of Negro youth. 3. They got good jobs and were educated and respected in the south.. 4. W.E.B. Du Bois' move up the social ladder was more about competing with the whites and getting respect from them by showing them that blacks could do what whites could do. Booker T. Washington wanted to drop the politics and all the politically correct things, he wanted to be friends and develop great business relations with the whites. He basically just wanted to see young blacks get money. With Du Bois being the first African American to get a Ph.D at Harvard University, you know he was about his people being educated and he was very educated himself. 5. They were getting "ok" money and had somewhat stable jobs. The whites went from hating blacks to thinking that "in educating our students we were adding something to the wealth and comfort of the community." 6. Political power, insistence on civil rights, and higher education of Negro youth, these goals were important because it made blacks equal to whites in America 7. He gave his Negroes new courage and brought new hope to the masses of his race. He has given them a working plan of life. 8. Easily Washington's. Du Bois cam off so pro-Negroe that he could be called anti-white aka the place populated by whites. He was competing with them and you know if blacks came up to the white mans level, he would have probably got big headed, said something stupid, and put us down again. Washington was more about being friends, he was a more peaceful dude, he helped people establish friendships with whites. Econimically and socially. He wouldve suceeded.
