A song and story of a man finding his back home
I am a simple musician finding ways to be heard...so here is the first, maybe first of concern. If anything I hate the bland monotony of some of the popular bands' lyrics and even music...so I tend to attempt to redefine what is to be heard.
Story behind the song
The song is about the parable of the prodigal son. In the start, there are words of doubt and tones of the music are dark, and lonely even. Yet in the chorus is the realization of his place, and how much he needs God. A prayer, a hope...pushing with what last might he has left to believe in the One he left some time ago. The second verse is more clear in his realization. It's obvious he wishes to come back home where everything was just right, and in the second chorus he finds more strength in his prayer and is more confident of the beliefs he's brought back up from the grave.
The bridge represents the gap between the two instances; when he's on his journey back home and when he gets there. It's hopeful at first, and all he sees is the smile in knowing there is hope. But along the way comes more troubles and trials to test his life. It grows sad once more, and makes him weary of his way.
But he doesn't give up.
The last chorus changes. A prayer of thanks. On his knees and tear-filled, having the ultimate joy in knowing he was back home where he belonged.
Lyrics
Our Dreams are few,
May we have them…
Lost and long, along the way.
Hopes and faith,
Only so strong…
Let it define us today.
For where we stand,
And where we fall
All for the place,
We dreamed of all along.
So shall we chase,
Not the wind…
But the heavens,
And hopes so high.
Walk along here,
With no fears of the while.
No prayers for denial,
No way to turn back.
Let’s move on.
Gain our ground…
As we begin
The journey of our lives.
But don’t fear thing…
Father! I pray now,
Listen to me…
I’m begging you, “Please,
Stay with me now.”
As the darkness makes me cold
As the lights dim, and I grow bold
In this nightmare of my own
Please, save me…
What is my world?
Lost and cold, I see.
Without the Light that made the earth.
Without the One that made me.
And in these nights,
Of each I know!
Passing by without a thought.
Days without You,
Days so gone…
Can I ever come back home?
Father! I’m back now,
Remember me?
I’m here on my knees,
Thanking you, now.
Now the Light burns in my soul,
How the dark thins, and we grow bold.
Forever shining with faith and hope.
I’ve come back home…
