Story behind the song
A medley is a combination of two or more distinct tunes. This medley consists of three traditional Scottish & Irish tunes: Mairi's Wedding, Scotland the Brave, and Dennis Murphy's Polka (although these are not necessarily the names they were known by in 1866). They lyrics for 'Mairi's Wedding' and 'Scotland the Brave' that were well known in folk-music circles today were not added until the twentieth century, although the tunes are much older. (Bones, bodhran, wooden flute, tin-whistle - Brent Santin; Guitar, mandolin, violin - Gary Mallon)
