A medium-fast song that has a definite John Denver feel to it.

Listen, enjoy the vocal and guitar or piano music of David Derbes.
NOTE: I've added some piano "instrumental only" songs on my music page. They are labeled as Piano in the title. Most are located towards the bottom of the page. Hi everyone! I'm a 49 year old part-time musician/songwriter with several years of various experiences. My ultimate goal is to have some songs published and recorded. All recordings of the songs were recorded with a simple cassette tape recorder. I'll try to keep the "News" section updated as things develop.

Story behind the song
The title came first, in fact, I still struggle with this as title or "West Virginia". The chorus lyrics were actually something I was working with on another song and they fell into this chorus instead. I went with this, just feels good as it is. I entered this song into a song contest with a pretty good score.
Lyrics
I Want to Come Home Words and Music by David Derbes 2005 Copyright daderbes@yahoo.com Chorus: I want to come home to West Virginia and live high on the mountain, in the trees. Be able to look out, over the valley, and live high on the mountain, in the trees. Verse I thought I’d like the city life where I could make my mark. To be among the wanna bees and party way past dark. The city girls that I was seeing, we ended up apart. Ain’t nothing good I found with city life. Chorus Verse Well there ain’t nothing better than the sunshine in the morning. To see the leaves a blowin’ and to hear the river flowin’. What nature has provided me on this land that I claim. Ain’t nothing better than country living. Chorus Solo (chorus BG) Verse So I can make a home for you and you can be my wife. Where we can live together up on this mountainside. And we can have ourselves some kids and this can be our life. Can’t get much better than having you with me. Chorus
