Story behind the song
The tune to the 'Anti-Fenian Song' was taken from this Northern U.S. Civil War song written by G. F. Root in 1864. The influence of American music was felt very strongly in Canada, so that many songs from south of the border enjoyed great popularity in Canada during the 19th century (as is the case today!). (Performed on original and reproduction saxhorns).
