Abdullah Al-Amin a.k.a. Dula-Mite was born June 15th, 1982 in Tacoma, Washington. Abdullah is a 20 year resident of Las Vegas, NV where he grew up in the gang and drug infested neighborhood of 28th street from the late 80's to the late 90's. Unlike a lot of kids that grew up with me, I decided to stay away from gang activities and drugs and to this day I have never taken a drug (not even a cigarette) or had a sip of alcohol. My childhood wasn’t the greatest but I have a strong mind and I use my experiences as fuel, especially when I’m writing music, It’s like going on a vacation I use it as my getaway. The name Dula-Mite came from a friend in high school who said I was ladies man like the 70's movie star Rudy Ray Moore’s character Dolemite and it stuck with me for years. My independent hip-hop career started with a group called Da Empire Squad. Like any group in the beginning we were all hungry but they showed there true colors and there lack of work ethic through time. Many members didn’t even want me to rap and suggested that I should try to be a hypeman because they said that I didn’t have the talent to be a great artist. Even family and friends laughed when I suggested that I wanted to be a solo artist. Eventually I left the group and went solo, but I knew if I wanted to make an authentic solo album I would have to do it the right way. I took some college courses, read several books and watch videos on the business of music and the steps to take when you make an album. One day I went to a local record store and bought every local (Las Vegas) rappers album and I listened and studied them. I had to check out my competition and at the end of the day there was no competition. Throughout the process of making my album people laughed and sneered at the fact I was doing this, but there negativity made my album the classic that I think it is. When you listen to songs on the radio today, almost everybody sounds the same and there is a lack of creativity in there lyrics. My music will make you laugh, dance, cry and most importantly make you think. Now a days everybody is a rapper what distinguishes me from them is that my sounds is different. You understand my words clearly and since I don’t have a violent history, I’ve never killed anyone in my songs. I love hip-hop it’s not only my passion, it’s my life and I can’t see me doing anything else with my life but entertaining people.
