Story behind the song
When the album Solitude was being made, I felt that the songs were too sad, and rightly so, cos it was meant to show the solitude after a heartbreak. So I suggested to my songwriter that he should entwine a romantic angle. We made a make believe situation, where the boy and the girl had their heartbreak, and moved on in life, marrying someone else. Now, after maybe 30-40 years, when they think back on life, they will remember all the good things they shared with that once-upon-a-time-sweetheart. That was the birth of Kitaabon mein. Also interesting is the Intro music which is based on the clicking of a clock(going back in time) and different instruments, like different memories, joining in! The song was completely acoustic treatment, with minimal use of synthesized sounds. Sung by Lahu Panchal and Pooja Bandekar. Written by Sanjay Masoom. Tuned by Madhav.
Lyrics
Kitaabon mein khat, phool, chehra chupaana, Na jaane kahan kho gaya wo zamaana. Bahut yaad aate hain din wo suhaane, Banaate thhe hum kaise kaise bahaane, Mujhe yaad hain wo ishaare se tera, Kahaan shaam ko hum milenge bataana, Na jaane kahaan kho gaya wo zamaana. Wo mandir kinaare ka talaab apna, Jahaan dekha karte thhe hum dono sapna, Wo mele mein chudi ki khaatir machalkar, Tera roothna, hasna, phir maan jaana, Na jaane kahaan kho gaya wo zamaana. Nahi bhool sakte wo pal jindagi ke, Banaaye thhe kitne mahal jindagi ke, Magar waqt ne aisi bijli giraayee, Jala apni chaahat ka har aashiyaana, Na jaane kahaan kho gaya wo zamaana. Kitaabon mein khat, phool, chehra chupaana!
