This is a very interesting half-classical, half-jazz piece by Claude Bolling, a pianist. This is actually the first movement of a 'Suite for Jazz Piano and Classical Flute.'
Story behind the song
This is from a live performance at the Luzerne Music Center/Camp. I was put into this chamber group by chance as it was the only semi-jazz one there. And, after two weeks, I had the music memorized and our group performed. When we got on stage, we bowed, and then we threw our shoes off the stage in a rebellious gesture against the establishment... kinda. Also, this was the first time in the 25-year history of the camp that the pianist in this chamber ensemble actually improvised where it says "Improvisation" in the score.
Extremely energetic and infectious, it had me standing up for the last eight bars, banging away.
