Story behind the song
My grandmother passed away, and my brother came up with the idea for doing the song
Lyrics
Verse One [dKD] My grandmother passed Friday January 27 06 painless I guess that's as good as it gets Why, I can't say Every vital sign she showed was healthy The day previous, circumstances michivious That led to the condition of her leaving us Heart attack lead to heart palpataions body scheming ending in exasparated breathing She and I we were like best friends Never wanted any of the happy days to end She did a lot of things for me when I was younger that made me grow up to become emotionaly stronger when I was cryin and all makin the fool She did her best to try to get me to go in shchool I apreciate it everything she did growing up into a man from a kid Ascended to heaven in all gods glory about how I felt let me tell you the story Woke up that morining at 2AM cause there was work at dad's house that I had to begin Finished at 6 and went back home to get some kicks Not knowing what I'd come home to witness She was breathing, very short breaths Looked to me like there was a piston in her chest Then it stopped. She was no longer breathing. I didn't want to belive what my brain was concieving. Death knell, grim reaper ringing the bell I love you grandma and oh yeah "farewell". [Chorus] Farewell grandma, I wish you the best I know you're in heaven smiling with all of the rest I gotta say I'll think about you everyday I'll think about you each and every time that I pray I'm a little sad about you leaving the home but I know God had to call back one of his own I say "farewell" with a tear in my eye Looking upward and seeing your face in the sky Verse Two [Bonanza] Do you realize the stuff that did for me For 19 years of my life done successfully When I was sick, you would be the disinfector Even at your age, you were always my protector. You'd take me to school 'til I learned how to drive And appreciated the time that you were alive You always seemed in your best health You would stroll in Battlefield Park, wearing a dress with a long belt But only recently, that role has changed Heart attack, then a stroke sounded inhumane You couldn't talk and were struck with dependence Even through your heart, I knew you wanted to end this Now, you're gone, and we pray for thee That you're strolling with the Lord through eternity I think you're too good to be my grandmother You're a second mom to my cousins, my sis, and my brothers. [Chorus] Farewell grandma, I wish you the best I know you're in heaven smiling with all of the rest I gotta say I'll think about you everyday I'll think about you each and every time that I pray I'm a little sad about you leaving the home but I know God had to call back one of his own I say "farewell" with a tear in my eye Looking upward and seeing your face in the sky Verse Three [Izzy Def] Forever ain't forever as long as you try, to keep your loved ones in your mind's eye If you can't hold it in, it's better to cry no shame in sheddin' tears for the ones who die. But I believe in a heaven beyond the sky, the grandest place after life for you and I. My grandmother's there, you better believe it, along with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it really hurts when you 'member the days, but the memories that ya made really paid, Some people think when you're gone, you're gone but my granmama's here to prove them wrong. It was almost like yesterday, you were alive. Now you're long gone and I'm here to survive. I look into the sky and wave my hand high, With a smile on my face, I'm saying goodbye. [Chorus] Farewell grandma, I wish you the best I know you're in heaven smiling with all of the rest I gotta say I'll think about you everyday I'll think about you each and every time that I pray I'm a little sad about you leaving the home but I know God had to call back one of his own I say "farewell" with a tear in my eye Looking upward and seeing yo
