A gentle ballad drawing its roots from progressive rock and bossa-nova! This song I feel needs to be played several times to appreciate its strength. Vocals courtesy of Mike Lockett
Cool progressive rock featuring 12 string guitars and moody keyboards
Gentle progressive rock in a contemporary style similar to latter era Genesis: 12 string guitars and moody keyboards.
Story behind the song
I was going through a heavy time at work and under a bit of stress from all the back-biting and the usual nonsense. Surely, I could find something better and more rewarding to do with my time? Swept Away says I can, and so can you too.
Lyrics
Swept Away by Neil Haigh
This hill’s too steep to climb whilst I’ve so much on my mind
I’m tired of wasting time, using words that never rhyme
In a tailspin without end, on a straight that’s full of bends
And what would you say, if I was to throw it all away?
And don’t you know, I could walk away from this
Turn aside, let you walk on by
Why don’t you know there’s a better place than here
Can’t you see when inside I cry?
The pressure’s piling on, and I’ve taken it too long
Inside I must be strong, never thinking that I’m wrong
Some messages to send, to people I can’t count as friends
And what would they say, if I threw it all away?
Now don’t you know, I could walk away from this
Turn aside, let you walk on by
Why don’t you know there’s a better place than here
Can’t you see when inside I cry?
I’m moving on, up and away from here
You couldn’t catch me, even if you’d try
Can’t stop to think as I break away from you
Although inside I feel I might die
I can’t hold it, I can’t mould it I just get swept away
Oh, swept away
Oh swept away
