Story behind the song
It's worrisome to see your heroes fall apart before your eyes, particularly when their life is entertwined with your own. I don't mean for this song to be as sad as most people think it is; I always thought it was sort of hopeful.

It was originally a 4/4 Billy Bragg rip-off, but then I turned it into a 3/4 Dylan rip-off. This song is dedicated to my father. Andrew Thomas: Vocals, guitar, harmonica
Nick Naioti: Background vocals, mandolin, percussion, melodica
Kevin Tillery: Background vocals
Lyrics
Goin' off to work again Just like the ant serves its queen Got the promotion from another man But I guess he's more qualified than me It wasn't always quite like this I remember a time of money and bliss But that's passed and now I'm stuck, by God Fifty years old, doing a boy's job I hope my kids don't think less of me I hope you don't think that I'm lazy I'll break my back just to survive It won't hurt nothing like what's inside Son, I used to be just like you I know you don't wanna hear it, but it's so true We don't have the time for each other But remember I love you, through and through I see the spark of freedom in your eyes I still feel my own, but it's not the same Live for me while I slave away Don't let this world forget our name I hope my kids don't think less of me I hope you don't think that I'm lazy I'll break my back just to survive It won't hurt nothing like what's inside
