Story behind the song
This was written about heading up to The Adirondacks after winter has faded away, that first trip back up to the north country in the spring. If you have a favorite place that you return to every year then you know the feeling.
Lyrics
Well the river runs cold in the early days of spring And the trees they are starting to turn And the time it has come to return to the woods As the snow’s of winter give away Another year has passed by again Another day and we’ve all just begun Another year The mountains they turn from a light steel grey To an ever changing sea of green And the mud on the trails it will dry with the sun As the air gets warmer each and every day Another year has passed by again Another day and we’ve all just begun Another year Soon you will be on those old familiar trails The ones you’ve trailed on since youth And it’s good to return to the mountains every spring To renew that feeling deep in you Another year has passed by again Another day and we’ve all just begun Another year Well the river runs cold in the early days of spring And the trees they are starting to turn And the time it has come to return to the woods As the snow’s of winter fade away
