Times can get tough, but do you really want to go to war?
Folk, Rock, Jazz, Country music from Rocking thru America!
Welcome to Rocking thru America!
Story behind the song
Now I make it a rule to never talk about politics or religion in my music, even though I am a God fearing patriotic American. This song, however, requires some explanation. It was written well before 911 and so has nothing to do with the current war. In our great American history, most americans would wish to support their country in time of war. That a few mainstream musicians signed by the big labels might wish to protest the war is none of my business. I think I'll go back to writing cowboy poetry now......
Lyrics
So you say you'd like to go to war
And raise the Flag above foreign nations like before
Just to even the score
Why, yes I'd like to go to war
But now you say you want to protest
But Uncle Sam only sends his best
March your flat feet out of here
Bartender, draw me another beer
And now you say you want to get a job
Get out of my office you hippie slob
And please don't contaminate the door knob
Go find yourself some other place to rob
So you say you'd rather to go to war
And raise the Flag above foreign nations like before
Just to even the score
Why, yes I'd rather to go to war
