A quick, cheap and easy recording of this standard folk tune with just vocals and a terrible sounding guitar.
folk acoustic blues blueg
All things folk - Acoustic Folk incorporating elements of Blues, Bluegrass and Irish folk. Pirate music, we like to say.
We have been playing punk rock and blues for years, and this folk project just came naturally for us. Growing up on Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, and with influences like The Pogues and Flogging Molly, our song writing began to turn toward all of these influences. Our songs truely incorporate elements of Blues, British Isles folk, Bluegrass and old outlaw country - all things folk. We were fortunate to have the lovely and talented Allison Dunn come aboard to do vocal work for us on some tracks.

Story behind the song
It's a song about making some changes in the life of those of us who have lived on the outside of society and the law. A little bit of self-discovery and acceptance of certian realities that exist and are beyond our control.
Lyrics
I never wanted to be a comeback story - against all odds I struggled and won. I wanted to be down and struggle at the bottom, and until now that's what I've done. Now I know there are things I can't change - there are wrongs I can't make right. So I guess it's time to start living a new way. Mark my words, I'm going to start tonight. And give me strentgh and give me courage, give me wisdom - I'll use them all to live my life with new purpose, to give my song to one and all. My carefree days and hooligan nights aren't over - without those times I'd lose my mind. But if I'll lend my hand, my ear, my shoulder - I believe a better man I'll find. I still want to go out in a ball of fire - my life just the blaze it leaves behind. But when the reaper comes calling me, I don't want regrets left on my mind. I'm not a man who has all the answers, I'm not a man who knows it all. I'm just a man who lives life my way - I am a man who can stand tall. Let me be like those who've come before me - the ones who passed and tears were shed. I'll hold a light that everyone can see - leave these hard times and move ahead. I never wanted to be a comeback story, but from the depths I now will climb. I can't believe a life was chosen for me, and in the end I'll say this life was mine. Show me the path of the righteous - show me a way not paved with gold. These obstacles are not new to us, they are the same as those of old. And give me strentgh and give me courage, give me wisdom - I'll use them all to live my life with new purpose, to give my song to one and all.
