This is my second take. Made a few mistakes but it's much better than the first go around.

Story behind the song
This popped into my head when I was driving to work. I was thinking about how the flowers I had in my living room and how they were dying. I then thought of a story about an old man on his death bed. Whereas my flowers were bought for my girlfriend and were meant to celebrate young love, his flowers were of sympathy; get well flowers. The irony of death in the living room sparked the rest of the song
Lyrics
The Living Room
I’m looking at dead flowers
Wilting away while the clock counts the hours out loud
Petals gather in piles on the ground
I glance down on the paper
I catch eyes with a frail looking stranger I won’t know
I hope she enjoyed her journey home
I wanted to sit on a billboard ledge
And look out over city lights
And feel the wind in a mountain town
And leave my front door unlocked at night
Wishes that will never come true
As I die In this living room
I’m listening to the freight train
Passing through town and making its way somewhere
Leaving trails of smoke all through the air
It rattles frames and glasses
And unsettles dust from my four walls as it passes me by
I guess I always preferred to fly
I wanted to sit on a billboard ledge
And look out over city lights
And feel the wind in a mountain town
And leave my front door unlocked at night
Wishes that will never come true
As I die In this living room
In this room there are no signs of life
Just a flickering TV and a broken light
A bottle of pills and an oxygen machine
That breathes for me
I wanted to sit on a billboard ledge
And look out over city lights
And feel the wind in a mountain town
And leave my front door unlocked at night
I wanted to stand in an open field
And catch windflowers in my hand
And play my guitar on a city street
And spend my earnings on a wedding band
Wishes that I thought would come true
Never came true
