Story behind the song
This song is somewhat autobiographical, but more acurately based on my failed attempt at a novel by the same title.
Lyrics
In the class of 1983 he was voted most likely to succeed. But he struggled through his college years, trying to gain the knowledge that he thought he'd need. But he never saw his graduation day. 'Cause it seemed that life kept getting in the way. He was hopelessly human, and all his plans were ruined by the hard times this world had put him through. And all his hopes were shattered and everything that mattered just seemed to disapear without a clue. Now he had two children and a wife and just another ordinary life. She left home the day she turned 18 to be a star on the silver screen. She was headed down the road to fame, but something happened somewhere in between. She met him and they both fell in love and that changed all the things that she dreamed of. She was hopelessly human and all her plans were ruined by the hard times this world had put her through. And all her hopes were shattered and everything that mattered just seem to disapear without a clue. Now she was a mother and a wife with just another ordinary life. And after 20 years through all the blood and sweat and tears, they made it through. The children that they'd raised had grown and went out to live on their own and now it all came back to just those two. And as they reflected on the life they'd had, they decided that it wasn't all that bad. They were hopelessly human and the plans they thought they'd ruined were really just a blessing in disguise. And all the hopes that shattered never really mattered, because now they realized...they were happy to be man and wife and to live this ordinary life. Yes they were still a husband and a wife with a wonderfully extrodinary, ordinary life.
