Story behind the song

I wanted to write a song that would help the returning 1073rd (and many other military companies), to see how God's hand was in their hard times while on duty in Iraq and ultimate return home.

Emotions rise and fall with the tension
With his company, but still alone
Waiting down inside his sandbox
Crying with a letter from home
He’s thinkin how his son can walk now
And sees the love in his woman’s eyes

Our prayers went up for the ones we love 
And grace came down from God above
So we’re gonna make our voices heard
And shout together “Welcome Home”
To the 1073rd

She’s gone through more than most in a lifetime
Although she’d proudly do it again
Freedom is the life she stands for
But still waiting when this duty will end
Fear can blind her eyes with darkness
But gets her light from the precious Son
