Sylvia (The Way to be Well)
This song was written during Sylvia's physical and spiritual journey after a massive stroke. With a sense of wonder and hope, and Jesus message of love and renewal, this song is a living work of art. After hearing this song
I am a songwriter dedicated to spreading the good news about the love and mercy of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
Story behind the song
My friends Scott and Kim called on the phone , "Scott's Grandma had a massive stroke and she is paralyzed. She is conscious, but she is refusing the feeding tube. She wants to die. Could you please go and pray for her?"
Scott and Kim were in Florida and Scott's Grandma, Sylvia, was in a NJ hospital near my home. I called Ed, who I knew from church, to go to with me.
When we got there, Sylvia could move only here eyes. She was surrounded by family and friends who were, basically, there to say goodbye. We prayed and thanked God for the loved ones gathered around us. We thanked Him that Jesus came to forgive our sins and we prayed that she would want to live again! Then we talked with the family for awhile and left.
The next day Scott and Kim called, "The doctor says its a miracle! Sylvia wants to live again and she is accepting the feeding tube!"
Praise God! Praise my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Oh, how sweet and powerful is His love, how tender is His care!
Sylvia recovered to the point where she could speak clearly and feed herself. Also, she had us rolling on the floor laughing the once during a visit!
On 8/3/06, after hearing this song for the first time (and MUCH prayer), Sylvia prayed to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior! We thank God for His love, mercy and faithfulness! Less than 2 months later she went home to be with The Lord.
Lyrics
"Sylvia (The Way to be Well)"
Words and music by Hank Stansfield
Music by Scott Gemeinhardt
Sylvia, when we first met you, you were down
Down so far you couldn't smile or even frown
So, we prayed and stayed to visit for a spell
Hoping you might see the way to be well
Sylvia, as you recover over time
Know that you are in our hearts and on our minds
You have a second chance to know that from above
Comes the way to be well and to love
BRIDGE:
The way to be well is so much more than fitness
You'll see and understand
That when we finally must leave this world of rags and riches
We'll be in God's hands
Sylvia, well here we are to pray again
For strength and health and for life everlasting
Jesus came to save us all from sin and hell
Just believe and know the way to be well
Know that Jesus is The Way to be well
