Story behind the song
I have always though Fallen and Hero were contradictory words. Hero's stand tall and make sacrafices willingly. Fallen has a bit of a negative connotation. Hence the song. A songwriter acquaintence of mine joined to help me finish the song with a great chorus for the melody and some lyrical input.
Lyrics
He kissed her goodbye, said I'll see you tonight and he went on his way
Got to work by nine, things were going fine, like any other day
But at 10:02 a call came through for engine 88
A 5 alarm, lives in harm, gotta hurry can't be late
Thank God he saved a little boy who went back in for a toy
A fallen hero, the writing's on the wall
A thirty year old who always gave his all
As he laid his life down he'd never stood so tall
This fallen hero
Turn around (Intro)
Seven men pinned down couldn't hold their ground, time was running out
When they called his name, he quickly came, he never had a doubt
He held back the tears, rose above his fears as he wiped his weary eyes
He knew he had the nerve, was proud to serve even if he had to die
They all made it back alive because he sacrificed his life
A fallen hero, the writing's on the wall
A thirty year old who always gave his all
As he laid his life down he'd never stood so tall
This fallen hero
Greater love has no man than this, than he lay down his life for a friend
A fallen hero, the writing's on the wall
A thirty year old who always gave his all
As he laid his life down he'd never stood so tall
