Story behind the song
The song was written after I witnessed the horrible destruction and pain and suffering that the American people had to endure after the senseless attacks on the greatest country in the world, the USA. I saw families re-living their lives, family members, friends and co-workers through photo albums, pictures, momentos, letters, anything to remember the person, and it touched my heart and made me reflect on my own life. I realized how much my family and friends meant to me and I too relived my own life. I also realized that it made our country stronger and through the attacks our country is now more united and greater than ever.
Lyrics
(Ahhhhh) (Ahhhhh) (Ahhhhhhhhh) Looking through a photo album just yesterday Bringing back sweet memories Livin'in the past through my minds eye pleases me Cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat John Unitas, The Beatles, and Yankees These were just a few of my favorite things Back in 1963 Thank God I never saw the hell of Vietnam That was something that I couldn't understand And why somebody killed JFK And Martin Luther King the same way.......... (Ahhhhh) (Ahhhhh) (Ahhhhhhhhh) Class reunions came and went And so did my friends Doc and Dale, Deborah G., Mary Kay Mom and Dad, Carl and now both of my Aunts... Passed away Travolta came,Disco sucked and Karen was born 1982 we moved away ZZ Top, Mindy's born, I'm still in love With my God today I've lived to see the dawning of a new century Living with my family down in Tennessee I saw the fire in the sky on 9/11 And the devistation that was done........ Ahhhhhhh just yesterday....... Ahhhhhhh just yesterday....... Blessed are the meek They shall inheriet the earth Those lives we lost were not in vain But still it hurts And from those ashes liberated spirits will rise The Stars and Stripes will never die Ed White Copyright 2001 BMI
