Story behind the song
This is a collaboration between Clem Gareau and Marshall Williams. Clem sent me the lyrics wondering if I could put music to it. Clem had a gentleman contact him about putting together upbeat original songs for a 12-year girl to sing.I read the lyrics and had an idea for a cajun sounding song. The next problem. Do I find a young girl to try and sing the song or sing it myself? Well I compromised. I decided to use my vocals but use a voice transformer program on my digital recording. Thus changing Marshall Williams into Marsha Williams. I hope I gave a convincing performance as a 12-year old girl. Marsha,Marsha,Marsha LOL.
Lyrics
Music with her Washboard Key of A/D (the turnaround modulates) Key of B/E (if capo'd 2 frets ) intro D / / A / / / A E verse1 On the poor side of town down by the river in full view Kneeled a girl and her washboard and her sign Will wash for you And from the nearby towns there were lots of boys Who would get together and always would get 'round To canoe down the river and marvel At the freckled face girl who made music with her washboard And it was awesome ( turnaround) Well, her family was poor but she would never complain With washboard in hand, she'd smile just the same, even in the rain And those who came 'round to see her Would dance barefoot in the sand And laugh and love every single minute With the freckled face girl who made music with her washboard And it was awesome turnaround accordian/fiddle lead- repeat verse 1 verse3 Well time passed and then one day drove up a young man in his car He got out and sat under a nearby tree next to his guitar Then he heard the music from her washboard And he reached for his old guitar And now their seen on center stage The freckled face girl who makes music with her washboard And it's awesome Repeat Verse 1
