A Lifetime (Wedding Version)

This is a slower "acoustic" version similar to what was played at my wedding. Not as quirky as the original version.

SKySWiM is the core project name for all musical work by Arnie Stanton. Arnie Stanton has been very involved in creating an eclectic musical blend of classical, electronic, rock, jazz, and other styles. Because of his wide musical background from training and listening, he tends to not stay long with one particular sound, mood, or feel. Arnie creates music meant to evoke deep emotions and strong visual imagery. His lyrics have spiritual overtones, sometimes comforting, but more often, challenging and ominous. He plays trombone, keyboards, sings, and usually talks in the first person, rather than third person tense, as he is doing here. :-) His base of operations is in Torrance, California. Story behind the song
A Lifetime (Wedding Version) was written for and performed at my wedding back in 1988. This is not my original version of the song which was written a couple years before. Even though many think of this as the more "serious" version, I consider both versions to hold significant meaning to me. This version is just a kind of fulfillment of what the original version was looking for in a relationship. My wife and I have occasionally joked that I should make a 3rd version, covering my thoughts on the marriage, singing in probably a less sensitive way, "A lifetime I waited for THIS??" I did not notice it until I finished recording this, that I realized that the lyrics here do not need to be changed much to turn it into a very religious song. Hmm... Are all half-way decent "love" songs that way?
Lyrics
With the turning of the time and the carving of the weather I look and see that nothing would be better Than the day my wish becomes more than just the wind The day I see your face. Another season drifting by Another test of my sanity Feeling fears beyond all measure that all love is now past for me Yet the dream goes on, beyond each day and night That you'll be next to me. A lifetime I waited for you And this is the moment, now we'll be together Leaving no trail for the hurts of the past We'll learn to trust each other With our very own lives With our very own life Being free to live life. Some say the pain we feel Is part of life's mystery They put no trust in love It's never there to stay They keep their bags all packed And hide their hearts away Too bad they've gone to sleep! Well the darkness of the clouds And the doubters don't bother me I can still hear my heart which resides just inside of me We look inside ourselves And find true hope within That' why I still sing this song
