The band was originally called All In One and was formed in the late 80s. A lot of the songs featured were performed solely by me or by me and a great singer called Michelle. We were heavily into New Jack Swing/hip-hop soul & Funk (Punkfunk), whereas (at the time) the rest of band believed that sort of music was going nowhere and just wanted to do UK soul. I wrote and performed all of the songs myself. A couple of companies attempted to sign us but being an ignorant group of black Londoners we imploded the second the contracts came through the post. I've probably written over 1000 songs and have a high "scrap-rate" because I'm fussy. I only like people to hear songs of mine that I still like a few weeks down the road.

Story behind the song
Sometimes as much as you love someone it wasn't mean't to be. I was inspired to write this song after a visit to ex's apartment where she played that Dawn Penn track "You Don't Love Me (No No No)" and told me the words described what she was thinking. The song Jennifer was a half-hearted apology and an excuse to make full use of my new found freedom. It was one of the most difficult songs to write because (despite being brought up listening mostly to reggae) I instinctively think of music in terms of funk & soul.
Lyrics
Later I decided to replace the name "Jennifer" with "Jamaica" in the lyrics mostly because I didn't want to lead her on. But I never got round to doing it. However, I think every musician should leave an ex-partner with a break-up song. It's great therapy and sometimes easier than trying to express how you feel in a letter or a conversation.
