Story behind the song
This song was written by Julie Tarro. She is a friend of the family who wrote this as a poem after her struggle with ovarian cancer. She heard that we were musical and emailed us the lyrics. As I was reading her lyrics for the first time, the melody just came to me. A huge thank you to Dale and Mike and the band who really brought this song to life. Julie Tarro wrote to us and shared the message behind the words: "Well, at this time in my life I was broken, tired, lonely and confused. I was recovering from chemo treatments and it seemed as though because I was so tired my life was on such a different path then I had ever experienced. I began to realize that all I had taken for granted, (family, health, relationships, my relationship with the Lord) looked very differently to me. The Lord used my time of healing to speak to me in many ways. The most direct was that He and only He was my sustainer. He breathed life into me, He was my shield, my healer. Only in Him would I ever find the rest that I needed. So sweet was this surrender once realized - that is where the song came from." "He continues to remind me of His great love for me and I am so grateful that He chose to meet my needs in such a sweet and loving way. There were times when I actually could feel His arms around me and His fingers stroking my cheek and wiping away my tears… Do not be afraid of the hard times because that is when God loves to show us how He cares for us. Trusting can be a difficult thing..."
Lyrics
~ Sweetness of Surrender ~ There are pieces of the puzzle I just can't seem to find Through the layers of confusion And the questions in my mind. There are many days I've wandered Searching for the truth, Yet You remain so faithful Lord, And I find my rest in You. (chorus) In the healing (loving) arms of Jesus I will rest and I will wait – To hear Your voice of comfort, through my pain. When I'm lost and I am frightened And the path seems dark and long; The sweetness of surrender… comes again. Lift my head and shield me Jesus, Because I trust in You; Fill my mouth with laughter As I cling to what is True. Breathe Your beauty through me As You delight Yourself in me. I surrender laying down my life, For surrender sets me free. In your arms… I will rest… I hear your voice… of comfort. Written by Julie Tarro and Daniel Lovett
