Early 90s UK Swing
funk soul prince jack black swing one all perkins
Soul, R&B, Reggae, Swing Beat, New Jack Swing
The band was originally called All In One and was formed in the late 80s. A lot of the songs featured were performed solely by me or by me and a great singer called Michelle. We were heavily into New Jack Swing/hip-hop soul & Funk (Punkfunk), whereas (at the time) the rest of band believed that sort of music was going nowhere and just wanted to do UK soul. I wrote and performed all of the songs myself. A couple of companies attempted to sign us but being an ignorant group of black Londoners we imploded the second the contracts came through the post. I've probably written over 1000 songs and have a high "scrap-rate" because I'm fussy. I only like people to hear songs of mine that I still like a few weeks down the road.

Story behind the song
Used to be called What You're Looking For and was a vehicle for the three girls in the band to do an En Vogue thing. The original was very Jam & Lewis and got us an offer of a recording deal. As a result the band imploded, I lost the lead singer, so re-wrote it in about half an hour out of anger, changing the pitch, drums and base (from MOR Soul to Swing) and the lyrics to something a bit harsher. Hence more deals were put on the table but by then I had lost my motivation (as reflected in the lyrics).
Lyrics
It's really about being disappointed by band members who I thought were true friends. The offer of a bit of money & a label deal and the years of friendship are soon forgotten by some.
